Our Story
Hi, I’m CJ Warstler, Creator of The HandyCart Workstation™ . After a while, retirement got boring, so I went looking for something to do. I found a job working in a large department store.
My first day on the job we got a truck load of merchandise, and I grabbed a shopping cart, my small hand-held scanner, a portable tabletop printer, some labels, shelf tags and went to work. I soon realized; a shopping cart was not going to work as it has no flat surface with which to layout all of the supplies needed to do the job. Stuff kept falling through the basket onto the floor and so on.
So that night I went home and built the first version of what would become The HandyCart Workstation™. It was made from some supplies I had lying around my wood shop. It worked OK but didn’t really sit on top of the cart without sliding around. After a week or so, I went searching online for a solution.
Surely someone must sell something that could work.
After all there are over one million retail stores in the USA alone. What I found was astonishing, there were basically two options and neither, in my opinion, were good quality products worthy of the price tag.
I called a friend who is a store manager for a national grocery chain, he told me his merchandiser had a homemade one her husband made from wood.
I called another friend who spent 30 years in the food brokerage industry and he told me his retail people grab a grocery cart and the biggest box of cereal they can find to use as a top. He said their stuff falls on the floor all the time and his people constantly complain.
So I went to work, my next version was make from aluminum angle I bought at a home improvement store along with a flat piece of aluminum plate. It worked ok but had sharp corners and still didn't attach well to the top of the cart.
After about 10 prototypes and 10-15 different versions of attachment devices, I found all the components I needed to build the ultimate The HandyCart Workstation™.
